UK: Correspondence with Baroness Meacher
Seed Our Future Wednesday 18 Nov 2020 Dear XXXX, It isn't helpful for you to threaten people. I am working hard to try and change the regulations affecting patients access to cannabis medicines. I hope you will understand that I need to get on with that work. Yours sincerely Molly a Meacher November 6 2020 This in response to the letter below Dear (Insert the full name of your MP here), As a constituent and a supporter of the Seed our Future campaign, I would like to bring your attention to the results of their extensive research and critical analysis of freedom of information requests carried out by this organisation. In which they conclude that cannabis prohibition not only has devastating effects upon individuals but also our society, our environment, and our economy. Their report exposes the sheer lack of evidence to support cannabis laws in the UK as per the 1971 Misuse of Drugs Act and the Misuse of Drugs Regulations 2001. I wish to take this opportunity to make you aware that when you respond to your constituents in regard to cannabis laws and you provide the Home Office's generic response below, you are in fact providing false and misleading information which breaches the Nolan principles or the 'Seven Pillars of Public Life' to which you have a duty to uphold as a public office holder. Consequently, ignoring information which is in the public interest is also a breach of your employment contract and is tantamount to Misconduct in Public Office. Generic Home Office Response: "The Government has no intention of legalising cannabis. Cannabis is controlled as a Class B drug under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971 as there is clear scientific and medical evidence that cannabis is a harmful drug which can damage people's mental and physical health, and harms individuals and communities." I urge you to read the following reports and reply forthwith, stating your intentions to rectify the current situation: A Critical Review of Home Office and ACMD FOI Responses Access this report here: https://www.seedourfuture.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/sites/11/2020/11/Critical-Review-of-Home-Office-and-ACMD-FOI-Responses.pdf Cannabis and the Law: No Evidence, No Crime? Access this report here: https://www.seedourfuture.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/sites/11/2020/10/Cannabis-and-the-Law-No-Evidence-No-Crime-MASTER-v1.3.pdf Please note: Inaction within 14 days of this correspondence will be viewed as a serious breach of your employment contract and this may lead to an investigation against you. We apologise for the tone of this correspondence as we envisage that you rely on the information you receive from the Home Office and the ACMD, however, as you have now been passed this additional information it is your duty to carry out due-diligence and act in accordance with the demands of your position. I look forward to your response, Regards, XXXX Here is the reply with Guy's: Dear Molly, thankyou for your response and I understand you are working hard on that aspect of the issue. I understand your point of view but surely at 1000 UKP per month for medical cannabis for a patient is ridiculous ...and huge profit is going to British Sugar, GW Pharmaceuticals and associated investors ... We need everyone to be able to grow Hemp for themselves and their health and the whole industry that it provides as well as for the remediation of our soil and farming industry. Please consider the benefits to society's health and industries and the planet. Below is a response from our Team at Seed Our Future who are fully aware of the political stance. Best wishes, Fiona Dear Molly, Thank you for your reply. I appreciate that you have been trying to support access of medicinal cannabis but if you have read the reports sent to you, you will realise that cannabis prohibition as a whole causes the harms, not only to those who desperately need cannabis for medicine but also for those who wish to use cannabis as a preventative, for relaxation and as an indispensable resource for the environment and our economy. The fact is, cannabis is not and never has been an illicit drug and the evidence of harms stated by the ACMD and the Home Office are fabricated to disguise the political and corporate interests. Laws which have no foundation evidence, laws which cause insurmountable suffering to the people and our environment is illegal and so the laws must be challenged immediately. Growing and utilising a non-toxic plant with minimal harm to individuals or society is not a crime, it is a right of all people. To continue dragging law abiding citizens through the judicial system when this is clearly not in the public interest is an unacceptable crime that will no longer be tolerated. You have a duty both legally and morally to act in the public interest and failure to do so is at the very least, negligence in public office. This is not a threat, it is a fact. I therefore implore you to read the reports and act appropriately. Sincerely, Seed Our Future Fiona Russell MCSP
