US: Coffee and cannabis shop opens in Portland

A coffee and cannabis shop is now open in Portland.

"Higher Grounds" says it's the first of its kind on the East Coast.

The shop had it's grand opening in the Old Port yesterday.

The owner tells us they've been open for 3 years selling coffee and they've been preparing to get a license to sell cannabis.

They can serve those with a valid medical card.

"It's something that for years I've been waiting to make this a reality and I'm just really proud to be able to carry the work of my farmer friends and represent the best of Maine's cannabis down here and the best of Maine's coffee," says Mark Barnett, owner of Higher Grounds.

There will be specials at the shop through Tuesday which is 4/20.
