UK: Girl, 3, helped gang to deal in drugs

A WOMAN who used a three-year-old girl to help her to deal in heroin and cannabis was facing jail last night. Drug squad officers on a surveillance operation saw the child handing supplies to addicts who called at the house Donna Horrigan shared with her parents.

When detectives posing as users called at the heavily fortified house in Middlesbrough,the girl passed cannabis to them through an iron grille in the door.

Horrigan, 23, had the girl in the back of her car with another girl, aged five, when she sold heroin to an undercover policewoman.

Yesterday Horrigan and her parents Gerard, 45, and Christine Horrigan, 44, appeared before Teesside Crown Court where they admitted various charges of supplying heroin, cannabis and amphetamines. With her were Craig Woodier, 22, and her brother, Darren Horrigan, 21. Also in court was Gerard Horrigan’s brother Patrick Horrigan, 40.

Gerard Horrigan and Woodier were remanded in custody and the others were released on bail pending the preparation of pre-sentence reports. Judge David Bryant said they still faced custodial sentences for the serious offences.

No prosecution evidence was heard, but at the time of the family’s arrest, Cleveland police said that three officers, known only as Rachel, Tony and Sharon, kept observation of the Horrigans’s terraced home between September 22 and December 1, 1999.

Detective Sergeant Charlie Bell said: “The officers were shocked and amazed when they got to the house and found someone so young."

“My officers were absolutely gobsmacked. They have come across some things in their time, but nothing like this.”
