UK: 15 soldiers fail tests for drugs

The Telegraph

Thursday 11 Jan 2001

FIFTEEN soldiers face dismissal from the Army after failing drug tests, the Ministry of Defence said last night. The soldiers, all in the Light Dragoons, based at Swanton Morley, Norfolk, were tested shortly before Christmas, said an MoD spokesman. "Drug use is unacceptable in the Army," he added.

Around 500 soldiers at the barracks are believed to have been tested as part of the Army's continuing drugs monitoring programme. The ranks of those who failed the tests is not known - although most are believed to be privates. It is not known what kind of drugs were found - although it is believed that the drugs being taken included cannabis and ecstasy.
