UK: Hyde Park 420: Man spends 650UKP on huge joint as hundreds gather to smoke cannabis

Huge crowds returned to Hyde Park for the annual event

A man who spent six hours rolling a £650 massive joint was one of the hundreds of Londoners who descended on Hyde Park to celebrate 420. Each year on April 20 huge crowds gather in the famous park to celebrate cannabis.

Celebrations reach their peak at 4:20 pm as weed smokers mark the date associated with the class B drug. Other protesters travelled for over three hours to take part while some families taking their young children along for the day out.

A man who gave his name as Theo was one of the main attractions of this year’s festival after he produced a massive foot-long joint. He explained: “This is 100 grams of pure weed. Pure skywalker OG. It took me six hours just to grind up. It cost between £650 and £700. I split it with my mate, we just bought it straight out.”

The event is organised to protest against the country’s cannabis laws. It is still illegal to smoke the drug and the Met Police has stop and search laws in place.

The Local Democracy Reporting Service witnessed several people being stopped and searched next to Speaker’s Corner. The Met Police said: “It’s important that people have the right to peacefully protest, it is also important that there are consequences for those who break the law.
