UK: Scheme to curb cannabis fumes could be rolled out across Lincolnshire James Turner My Local Lincolnshire Thursday 22 Jun 2023 Officers believe it is severely underreported A novel program to reduce fumes from people smoking cannabis may soon be implemented countywide. The Noxious Odour Pilot, which was initiated in the Boston area in March, has been receiving an average of two to three reports weekly. Given the pervasiveness of the issue throughout Lincolnshire, local council officers plan to expand the scheme across the entire county by the autumn of this year. The unique initiative was launched under the South and East Lincolnshire Community Safety Partnership (SELCSP). People are initially offered advice letters and more serious cases can be escalated to Community Protection Notices. The scheme's significance was emphasised by Peter Hunn, Community Safety Manager for East Lindsey District Council and Boston Borough Council, during a meeting on Tuesday. He noted: "We received feedback from residents in most areas about drug-related smoke from private properties causing a nuisance. However, when they reported it to landlords, housing associations, or the police, they found no one was addressing it." The Boston pilot is slated to continue for another three months, after which it will be evaluated. Mr Hunn underscored that antisocial behaviour, such as this, is severely underreported and encouraged anyone being impacted by it to report to their local district council or housing association. "If you are troubled by anti-social behaviour of any type, whether its noise or noxious smells there are people out there that can advise and help you," he continued. "We believe that anti-social behaviour is under-reported and we want to change that by helping as many people as we can." https://mylocal.co.uk/lincolnshire/feed/79520
