Moroccan Border Control Authorities Seize 5.6 Tons of Cannabis at Guerguerat

Morocco’s National Police (DGSN) and customs officers thwarted an international drug trafficking attempt at the El Guerguerat border crossing south of Dakhla on Thursday, and seized 5.6 tons of cannabis resin, according to security sources.

Police K-9 units uncovered the drugs during a joint vehicle inspection operation. They were concealed inside a cargo of paint materials aboard a truck with Moroccan license plates heading toward a sub-Saharan African country.

Authorities arrested the truck’s 39-year-old driver on suspicion of involvement in the smuggling operation. He is now in custody subject to further investigation under the supervision of the public prosecutor’s office.
