Greece Bans Cannabis Based Products From Retail Sales
Greek City Times Sunday 17 May 2026 The government submitted the bill to Parliament under the title “Establishment of an Innovation Fund – Access of patients to new medicines and therapies and other provisions”. The proposed law was also placed for public consultation as part of the legislative process. Under the new regulatory framework, authorities prohibited the retail distribution of smokable cannabis products and cannabis-infused items such as gummies and vaping oils in small retail outlets. The measure targeted points of sale including kiosks and convenience stores, which previously had access to a range of such products. The Health Ministry also introduced the creation of a specialised Digital Cannabis Product Monitoring Registry. Officials designed the system to strengthen oversight of the supply chain and improve traceability from production to distribution. Authorities implemented the changes following reports of concerning incidents involving minors, including school-aged children consuming cannabis-derived products sold in easily accessible retail environments. The legislation further clarified that medicinal cannabis remained legal under strict conditions. Doctors exclusively prescribed medicinal cannabis, while the government prohibited its distribution through private online platforms or unregulated channels. Officials stated that the new framework aimed to reinforce public safety, restrict youth access, and ensure tighter control over emerging cannabis-related markets in Greece. https://greekcitytimes.com/2026/05/17/greece-bans-cannabis-based-products-from-retail-sales/
