January 30, 2001 10:04: CANNABIS with a street value of £6m was seized in
Eltham during a swoop by members of the elite National Crime Squad (NCS).
Officers from the Calder Branch of the NCS landed the haul following a
surveillance operation across south east London.
Upon searching a lorry, which was being driven by Russell Tuvey, of
Westmount Road, Eltham, officers found two tonnes of cannabis resin.

The 33-year-old was questioned by police before being charged with
possession with intent to supply at Woolwich Magistrates Court, last
Thursday before being remanded in custody for seven days.
The hauls 6m pounds value is an estimated figure, worked out on the basis of the
drug being cut up and sold on the street.

Formed in 1988, the NCS, an amalgamation of the six former Regional Crime
Squads in England and Wales, works from 36 locations across the country to
target national and international serious and organised crime.
The operation, code named Andreas, was carried out with assistance of
Humberside Police and HM Customs & Excise at Dover.
A NCS spokesman said: Even though it is a massive haul, in terms of street
value, it is not one of the largest seizures dealt with by the NCS.
He added: It is an ongoing operation and there are some sensitivities
around it which will be revealed at trial.
The operation was so sensitive that details of the lorry were withheld.
But the NCS could not confirm how long the operation had been going on for
or where exactly the seizure was made.
Further enquiries in connection with this seizure are continuing both in
the UK and on the Continent.
