Tuesday 10 Apr 2001 Man fined £500 for bringing in skunk A MAN has been fined £500 after Customs officers found more than £2,000-worth of "skunk" cannabis stuffed down his trousers. Colchester magistrates heard yesterday how Samboudian Seydi, 32, had arrived as a foot passenger at Harwich International Port on February 23 after a trip to Amsterdam. Seydi, of Brixton, south London, was searched by Customs Officers and when he. removed his trousers they found a large brown package containing 400g of herbal cannabis. Christopher Harrison, prosecuting for HM Customs and Excise, said: Mr Seydi said he did not declare the cannabis as he did not think it was illegal to bring it into the country." CONTROLLED Seydi, who has a baby daughter, had admitted importing a class B controlled drug at a previous hearing. He was also ordered to pay £100 costs. Christian Meikle, mitigating, said: His introduction to the court has been a very salutary experience and one he does not wish to repeat "He totally regrets and has remorse for his behaviour. Customs and Excise consider anything under 2.5kgs as of personal use."
