Legalise pot, says Green

The Green Party Prospective Parliamentary candidate for Lancaster &
Wyre, Prof John Whitelegg is calling for the legalisation of cannabis.

He said: "The time is now right to legalise cannabis. We need to free up
police time and get rid of the criminal element currently profiting from
the drug.

"Our approach to cannabis will allow more resources and help to be given
to communities blighted by hard drugs. There are currently 100,000
arrests for cannabis possession each year.

"These people should not have criminal records and should not be
clogging up the courts. Many people find that cannabis is helpful in
relieving pain and reducing stress."
