Belgium backs cannabis use

Friday 20 Jul 2001 BELGIUM has approved the trial use of cannabis for selected medical purposes, according to a decree published yesterday. It will be legal for treating nausea caused by chemotheraphy and radiotherapy; glaucoma; pains and muscle spasms linked to multiple sclerosis; Aids symptoms, and chronic pain. But it can be administered only in hospitals as part of approved research.
