UK: Wheelchair-bound Biz vows to fight on

---
Orkney MS sufferer Biz Ivol has vowed to continue her fight for the
legalisation of cannabis - despite being wheelchair-bound since the police
raid on her home last week.

The stress since being interviewed by police, she says, has led to a
deterioration in her condition.

"I am stuck in a wheelchair now. My legs have died, just because of the
stress. You are supposed to avoid stress if you have MS, it just makes it
worse."

But Mrs Ivol (53), from Herston in South Ronaldsay, acknowledged that the
events which led to the police raid were of her own doing.

Four officers swooped on her home recently and seized several items under a
search warrant issued in terms of the Misuse of Drugs Act.

The housewife has vowed to carry on sending out cannabis chocolate packages
and cannabis information packs to anyone - with a doctor's certificate -
who wants them.

She has received dozens of letters and cards of support.

"So many people have contacted me to tell me to carry on fighting. It has
not stopped people phoning up to get the information sheet."

Mrs Ivol, who has not been charged as yet, believes that police south have
acted on information gained from items seized from her house to raid
another property in Wales.

"The woman's mother phoned me up on Tuesday or Wednesday and said her
daughter, who is in her 30s and in a wheelchair, had been raided. The
police were looking for cannabis chocolates."

Mrs Ivol has been in touch with a lawyer from the group Release, based in
Edinburgh.

She said: "Release tend to fight lost causes. He sent a letter to me saying
that after hearing my account of what happened, he feels that I will be
prosecuted."

This is not the first time Mrs Ivol has been raided by police. In December,
1997, she was admonished at Kirkwall Sheriff Court after admitting growing
27 cannabis plants to relieve the pain of MS. She says cannabis is the only
thing that alleviates the symptoms and stops the muscle spasms.
