Sunday 09 Sep 2001 Britain's first cannabis cafe opens next week A DRUGS campaigner who presented the Queen with a bouquet of marijuana is to open Britain's first cannabis cafe. Colin Davies, 44, will launch The Dutch Experience in a Stockport shopping mall next Saturday - in direct conflict with the law. Davies, who presented his controversial bouquet to the Queen last October as she visited an arts centre, has recruited five Dutch staff, who have all worked in Holland's legal cannabis cafes. They will be serving three types of weed and hash in two-and five-gram bags, as well as ready-rolled joints, at a cost of around £3-£4 per gram. "My aim is to provide low-cost marijuana to medical users subsidised by sales to social users," said Davies, who also runs the Medical Marijuana Co-operative,and has already been arrested twice on possession and supply charges, but was acquitted. In 1993 a cannabis coffee shop opened in Brighton but was immediately closed down by police.
