Pupils withdrawn from public school over drugs on train Andy McSmith Ananova Friday 17 Nov 2000 Three pupils have been withdrawn from a leading private school by their parents after they were reported for smoking cannabis on a train. The students, one in the sixth form and two in fourth year, at Lomond School, Helensburgh, Dunbartonshire, left after a passenger was shocked to see the children openly taking drugs. The parents of the boys took the decision after a meeting with Angus Macdonald, the head teacher of the £6,000-a-year school. In a statement Mr Macdonald said: "Three parents withdrew their children from school on November 8 as a result of some investigations that revealed their involvement with soft drugs." "The school is in considerable demand not only because of its excellent academic reputation and emphasis on a positive lifestyle but also because of its disciplinary record and intolerance of negative influences." "Regrettably these three pupils did not live up to the high standards expected of them." A school spokesman says the police have not been involved.
