Britons held in drug swoop Michael Fleet Press Association Wednesday 17 Nov 1999 Three Britons are being held after cannabis worth IRĀ£15 million was seized in a raid on a ship off the Co Cork coast. Irish naval personnel and customs officers found one-a-half tonnes of high-grade cannabis resin when they swooped on the British-registered converted trawler near the Fastnet Rock. Customs officials believe the 70ft vessel had travelled from North Africa, and that its cargo was bound for Britain and the Continent. They are making a detailed search of the ship after it was escorted to Schull, Co Cork, by the Irish Naval Service. Three men are being questioned by detectives in nearby Bandon.
