Cannabis laws to remain, says minister Andrew Grice Ananova Tuesday 17 Oct 2000 Decriminalising the possession and use of cannabis would be "irresponsible", a government minister has told the House of Lords. The Government was opposed to "any lessening" of the controls on currently illicit drugs, Junior Home Office Minister Lord Bassam of Brighton told peers during question time. Lord Bassam took the strong line as a survey today suggested that a third of Britain's top bosses have tried cannabis. But he told peers there was an "important distinction" between medical use of cannabis and recreational use.
