Three in court after ú20m cannabis seizure

Three men have been arrested after cannabis with an estimated street
value of £20m was seized off the Cornwall coast. Customs officers
found around six tonnes of the drug when they intercepted a 35ft yacht
heading into St Mawes harbour, near Falmouth.

The cannabis was taken away for analysis under armed guard.

The three men on board, John Moore, Stephen Needham and Peter Craig,
who are British, were remanded in custody at a special sitting by
Truro magistrates. They will appear in court again on Thursday They
all face charges of illegally importing the cannabis into Britain.

Head of the Customs and Excise anti-smuggling team in the South West,
Martin Cooper, said: "This is possibly the most valuable seizure we
have made.

"It sends out a clear message to the smugglers."
