UK: A dealer's view
Grant, 38, Camden The Guardian
Tuesday 23 Oct 2001 "I'm not sure it will make much difference to me. It's not as if I run a shop and suddenly there'll be all these new customers. I sell small amounts of dope to friends and friends of friends, and they've already made their minds up about smoking. "I don't make an awful lot of money from selling weed. Usually it works out that I just get my personal gear for free rather than making a profit, and I still have to work to make a living. "The people who make the big money are a few links up the chain, the people who sell it to the people I buy it from. These guys have no interest in seeing cannabis legalised. If that happened, all their profit would disappear overnight and go to the government instead. "The big dealers will be delighted with this. Reclassification means there'll be less stigma attached to cannabis and less risk of prosecution, so more people will smoke."
