UK: GW Pharmaceuticals welcomes relaxation of cannabis laws

Ananova

Tuesday 23 Oct 2001

---

GW Pharmaceuticals has welcomed the Government's decision to relax the law on
cannabis.

The company is licensed by the Home Office to develop cannabis extracts into
non-smoked prescription medicines

Home Secretary David Blunkett says possession of cannabis should no longer be an
arrestable offence and should be reclassified as a "Class C" drug.

That puts it in the same category as anti-depressants or steroids.

GW says it has worked closely with Home Office officials and provides regular
updates to the Home Office on the progress of its clinical trials.

GW says it remains on track to make its first submission to the Medicines
Control Agency in 2003.
