UK: Survey finds the 'Snortysomethings'
Ananova
Thursday 15 Nov 2001 Middle class professionals and managers are the most likely to snort cocaine and take ecstasy, a survey claims. Work stress, career pressures and even staying slim were blamed for drug use. The survey of 4,180 men aged 16 to 59 found 19% of managers and professionals had used cocaine in the last month. Phil Hilton, editor in chief of men's magazine FHM bionic, who commissioned the poll, said: "We've uncovered a new generation of respectable, middle aged 'snortysomethings' who see drugs as an acceptable part of an evening's entertainment." More than one in five of the men polled had taken ecstasy, nearly one in ten amphetamines and 41% cannabis. The survey found drug use in general was four times higher than government estimates.
