UK: Cannabis campaigner remanded in custody

CANNABIS campaigner Colin Davies has been remanded in custody by
Stockport magistrates today (Thursday).

Mr Davies, 44, of Brinnington, was arrested on Tuesday when police
swooped on the Dutch Experience cafe, Reddish.

He appeared in court this afternoon with his parents and around 30
supporters in the public gallery, many of whom wore Dutch Experience t-
shirts adorned with a cannabis leaf motif.

After hearing representations from the defence counsel - who asked for
reporting restrictions to be lifted - and prosecution, magistrates at
Stockport court remanded Mr Davies in custody.

Mr Davies is charged with possessing 1,358 grammes of cannabis with
intent to supply, plus 31 grammes for possession.

He is charged with two counts of permitting the Dutch Experience to he
used for smoking cannabis, a couple of charges of possessing cannabis
with intent to supply, two allegations of unauthorised possession of
drugs on premises and one charge of supplying drugs.

Mr Davies was being interviewed by the BBC on whether the law was
turning a blind eye to the use of cannabis when he was arrested on
Tuesday.
