UK: Blair commends Charles over Harry revelations

Ananova

Sunday 13 Jan 2002

---

Tony Blair has commended Prince Charles for his handling of revelations
about Prince Harry's underage drinking and cannabis smoking.

Mr Blair, whose eldest son was caught underage drinking, said he knew
from personal experience that it was a difficult situation.

He told the BBC that the Prince of Wales and the Royal Family handled
the situation responsibly and sensitively.

Euan Blair, then 16, was found to be drunk and incapable in London's
Leicester Square while celebrating the end of his GCSEs in July 2000.

Mr Blair said: "I think the way that Prince Charles and the Royal Family
have handled it is absolutely right and they have done it in a very
responsible and, as you would expect, in a very sensitive way for their
child."

He added that it would be probably unrealistic for the story to be
suppressed.
