UK: 18 pupils suspended over lunch-hour dope sessions
Ananova
Tuesday 26 Feb 2002 Eighteen public school pupils have been suspended for smoking dope in their lunch hour. The sixth-form boys and girls were sent home from Bradford Grammar for sharing joints while sitting in their cars during break. Headteacher Stephen Davidson confirms they had each been suspended for a few days but will be back in class tomorrow. Mr Davidson told the Bradford Telegraph and Argus a thorough investigation had found no trace of drug dealing or of harder drugs being used. "What we had was a group whose social life and school life became slightly blurred at the edges," he said. "This is a very well-disciplined school, we take these issues seriously, which is what our parents expect." He said staff had been tipped off by other pupils just before half-term and had spent several days investigating. Mr Davidson said police have been notified, adding: "The drugs squad have been informed but they are happy to let us get on with the investigation." He said one 18-year-old boy had, with his parents, decided to leave the school.
