UK: Britain's second cannabis cafe under threat
Ananova
Tuesday 02 Apr 2002 Britain's second cannabis cafe is being threatened with closure just a day after it opened. Dutch Experience 2 opened in an old warehouse unit on an industrial estate in Bournemouth on April 1. However, the agent for the property's landlady says the cafe's owner James Ward faces eviction but Mr Ward says he hasn't received an eviction notice. Agent Stuart Lees, of Bullock and Lees, told the Daily Echo: "He shouldn't be there and he won't be there much longer. He is going to be removed. It is all illegal." Four men from Greater Manchester were arrested and released on bail without charge last week after a police raid at the premises. A Dorset Police spokesman says the men were questioned about offences relating to criminal damage and the Misuse of Drugs Act. The Amsterdam-style coffee shop is only open to over 18s. Alcohol and hard drugs are banned. It follows the UK's first cannabis cafe, which opened and immediately closed down in Stockport. While the police spokesman says the premises will be monitored, he wouldn't comment on specific operations.
