UK: Tory quizzed over drug lollipop

Evening Echo, Essex

Friday 30 Aug 2002

---

A Tory Basildon councillor has been quizzed by police for selling "cannabis
lollipops" at the Edinburgh Festival.

Christopher Jackman, 28, was questioned after complaints from the public
that he was selling the lollies - bearing the cannabis symbol - from a
stall.

However, police took no action after being satisfied Mr Jackman - who
represents Wickford Park - was doing nothing illegal.

Mr Jackman, who supports a pro-cannabis stance, today told the Echo he had
done nothing wrong.

He said: "There has been a lot of fuss up here about the lollies I have been
selling, but they are perfectly legal.

"All they do is put a smile on your face. The police here know what I have
been doing and they don't have a problem with it."
