UK: Cops raid cannabis cafe

Stockport Express

Friday 04 Oct 2002

---

POLICE raided the UK's first cannabis café just hours after its owner
was jailed.

Two men and a woman were arrested for public order and drugs offences
when police swooped on the Dutch Experience café in Stockport just hours
after owner Colin Davies was sentenced to three years in jail for drugs
offences.

His defence team had hoped that Davies would be released after spending
nine months behind bars on remand.

His father, also called Colin, accused police of persecuting his family.

Mr Davies, 72, said: "The judge was quite lenient, but I have to say
that any money spent by the police seems to be spent on persecuting
Colin Davies.

"He is a bit down-hearted by the sentence, but he told me last night
that he was found guilty so he will do what he has to do.

"He has no regrets and said he would do it again. The police have
deprived Colin's patients of getting any help from him so they will now
have to go to street dealers."
