Tuesday 24 Dec 2002 Any MegaStar readers who've accepted a free lolly from Father Christmas in Basildon town centre, or outside West Ham's ground, may have experienced side-effects not normally associated with those gooey sweets. Aside from the usual queasiness and toothache, they may have suffered euphoria, amusement, paranoia, mellowness and any number of other side-effects. Lovely stuff. That's because Santa was in fact Conservative councillor Christopher Jackson, and the lollies contained cannabis oil. Mr Jackson says his generous gesture was a challenge to his party to clarify its drugs policy. But surely whether they approve of cannabis or not, no self-respecting free-market Tory could ever condone giving it away free of charge.
