LONDON (AFX) - GW Pharmaceuticals PLC said it has established an
extensive research collaboration with one of the world's leading
cannabinoid scientists, Professor Raphael Mechoulam of the Hebrew
University of Jerusalem in Israel.

Under the agreement, signed with the Research Development Company of the
Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Yissum, GW has acquired the rights to a
number of cannabinoid patents invented by Professor Mechoulam.

GW Pharma, which is developing a portfolio of non-smoked, cannabis-based
prescription medicines, said the patents include inventions relating to
cannabidiol (CBD), one of the cannabinoids on which GW's research is
focused, and endocannabinoids (cannabinoids found in the human body).

Professor Mechoulam, who coined the term "cannabinoid", is the author of
more than 270 publications and an inventor on over 21 patents, having
worked on cannabinoid chemistry since the early 1960s.
