BBC Online
Friday 07 Mar 2003 A man who changed his name to "Free Cannabis" has been jailed for two months for auctioning the drug in a park. Cannabis - who changed his name by deed poll from Robert Christopher - was found guilty in February of having £600 worth of the drug, and offering it for sale. Cannabis, 33, from Glastonbury, used a microphone at the start of demonstration in Hyde Park in support of legalising the drug. The court heard he had done so in front of police officers. Drug martyr The judge accepted Cannabis's apology, and promise that he would not do it again now the law was due to be changed on personal use. He added: "If I imprison you, you will be tempted to see yourself as a martyr to the cause. "If I do not, you may see the court as a vehicle to assist your campaign." He said Cannabis had devalued his name and financial inheritance and had fixed ideas about the drug.
