UK: Cannabis shop man opts for trial
BBC Online
Thursday 11 Sep 2003 A cannabis campaigner charged with possessing the drug with intent to supply has chosen to be tried at crown court. Jeffrey Ditchfield, of Water Street, Rhyl, appeared at Prestatyn Magistrates Court on Thursday and denied the charge, which resulted from a police raid on his shop premises in the town. The shop - called It Beggar's Belief - planned to sell cannabis seeds, growing equipment, and legal intoxicating herbs, but was raided within minutes of opening last weekend. The case against Mr Ditchfield alleges that police recovered two bags from his car, each containing a quarter of an ounce of cannabis resin. He said he was entering a not guilty plea on the basis that he would have been supplying cannabis to people with medical problems which were eased by the drug. The case was adjourned until 6 November.
