FATHER TAKES FIGHT TO EUROPE

A Peterborough father of two is taking his fight for the legalisation
of cannabis to the European Court of Human Rights.

Marcus Davies from Briar Way claims smoking cannabis helps ease his
epileptic fits. Despite convictions for possession of cannabis Mr
Davies is campaigning alongside 250 other members of the Legalise
Cannabis Alliance in the European Court of Human Rights.

"I believe one of my basic human rights is being contravened", said Mr
Davies. "Cannabis helps my medical condition and the misuse of drugs
act contravenes that."

The group has lodged a petition and is waiting to hear what action
will be taken. I have offered to go to Strasbourg and they (LCA) has
said I would be welcome to.

"I believe the use of cannabis is for the good of mankind, the only
problem at the moment is that you have to go to go to a dealer, and
they would rather sell you other drugs that make them more money. I'm
pretty confident of a change in the law."

Article 18 under which Mr Davies says his rights are being
contravened. Everyone has the right to freedom of thought, conscience
and religion; this right includes freedom to change his religion or
belief and freedom, either alone or in community with others and in
public or private to manifest his religion or belief in teaching,
practice, worship or observance.
