MARIJUANA PLANTATION IN MAGUINDANAO BURNED

CAMP SIONGCO, AWANG, Maguindanao - Soldiers yesterday burned about P30-
million worth of marijuana plants found near a rebel satellite camp in
Carmen, North Cotabato.

The six-hectare plantation in Bgy. Tanganon was being guarded by suspected
Moro Islamic Liberation Front rebels and Pentagon kidnapping gang members,
said Maj. Julieto Ando, spokesman of the Army's 6th Infantry Division.

The raid was preceded by another in neighboring Bgy. Tupig. About
P5-million worth of marijuana was seized from the farm.

In Tacloban City, 10 drug peddlers - including a nephew of city traffic
chief Danile Eclipse - were arrested in a raid in a barangay notorious for
drug trafficking.

The city anti-narcotics unit confiscated from the group a total of 22.7
grams of methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu worth P44,100 and drug
paraphernalia.

A notorious drug dealer, identified as Monito de la Cruz, escaped the raid,
police said.
