UK: Mearns man had cannabis for medical reasons, court told
Press & Journal, Aberdeen Thursday 11 Dec 2003 A Man who claims to be "chronically incapacitated" yesterday admitted possessing cannabis at an address in the Mearns. Police found 10 plant cuttings and leaf material when they searched the home of Stefan Rausch, 55, after receiving information that there were drugs on the premises. Officers found the cannabis at *******, Laurencekirk, on March 14. It was valued at £120, fiscal depute Fiona Murray told the court. Defence agent James Hodson said Rausch recently suffered three heart attacks and was now "chronically incapacitated". "At the time he had been given the understanding from some source that the cannabis may offer him some form of relief medically," Mr Hodson said. He said the experiment "hadn't really got off the ground" and admitted to Sheriff Patrick Davies that Rausch had not explored all conventional medicines before trying cannabis. Rausch, whose address was given as c/o ********** Road, Montrose, was not present in court. Sheriff Davies said: "I have been known to take a sympathetic view where every avenue of pain relief has been explored, but that is clearly not the case." He fined Rausch £80.
