UK: 5 Cops Piled Their Way In

Daily Record, Glasgow

Thursday 26 Feb 2004

---

JOE'S website www.joeswebpresence.com tells how the drugs squad team raided
his house.

The tale appears alongside his account of the fateful phone-in, a mocked-up
photo of his cat smoking a joint, and his belief in the legalisation of
cannabis.

In the section of the website headed 'I got busted recently,' he explains
how police turned up at his doorstep on February 11. He writes: Five men
were standing at my door.

'Mr Mcloughlin?' they asked.

'Who are you?' I asked.

They pinned me to the wall, and without another word, all five piled in
through me. 'Hey ! Slow it down ! Who are you?' I demanded, as I was
manhandled down my hall.

'What do you think you're up to?'

'We have a warrant to search these premises. Sit down.'

I was forced down into a seat that hurts my back.

'You have to show me it before you come barging in. You've just invalidated
that warrant. Are you planning to identify yourself?

'Just take it easy' 'Who are you ?' Where's your warrant?'

'I'm detective ******* . This is a warrant to search these premises.'

I read the warrant. 'You forced entry to my home. That warrant's
invalidated. You have to identify yourself and serve it.' 'No, no. It
doesn't work like that.'

'Yes, it does. Is this Soviet Russia?'

'The Soviet Union doesn't exist any more.'

'That's what I thought till you barged into my home.' 'I'm not going to
argue with you about it.'

'If I was making chips, and answered the door with a knife in my hand, and
I ended up plunging it into your heart, it would be your own fault.'

'That's as may be.'

'You have no right to enter my home like that.'

'Mr Mcloughlin, if you don't start co-operating I'll have you arrested
right now.'

His colleagues were rifling through the jackets in the hall, and opening
cupboards.

I tried to phone my solicitor, and was told I couldn't until they were
finished.

They conducted their illegal search.

This is what they found: 1oz of bud, 1oz of leaf, and an ongoing grow box,
containing 18 small plants in various stages of growth.

This setup makes just enough to guarantee me a constant supply.

They also got two antique pipes, a couple of sets of pans and a beautiful
stash box with great sentimental value. I'm not ashamed of using cannabis,
and the fact it's still illegal should be a source of shame for everyone.
