UK: Cannabis plants seized as 50 officers raid isolated farm
Russell Jackson The Scotsman
Saturday 24 Apr 2004 POLICE seized almost 100 cannabis plants, machinery and other equipment in a raid on an isolated farm suspected to be at the centre of a drugs operation. A 38-year-old man was arrested after 50 officers swooped at the premises near Denny in Stirlingshire yesterday. Three other addresses in the Strathclyde Police force area and one in the Central Scotland area were also searched. More than UKP10,000 in cash, "significant" quantities of cannabis and class A drugs were recovered in the raids. Detective Inspector Gordon Dawson, of Central Scotland Police, said they followed weeks of planning. "Acting on information received, as part of our drug campaign, Operation Overlord, officers searched premises in Denny, where we have found what is believed to be a commercial cannabis cultivation. "In connection with this, and assisted by Strathclyde Police, we have also undertaken searches of several business premises in Glasgow," he said. Operation Overlord began in the Central Scotland force area two years ago. Since then more than 700 dealers have received a total of 150 years in jail and drugs worth more than UKP2 million have been seized.
