UK: Teenagers 'misguided on drugs'
ThisIsLincolnshire
Monday 10 May 2004 More than a third of Lincolnshire teenagers believe possession of cannabis is legal, according to a new survey. Statistics gathered by the Lincolnshire Drug and Alcohol Action Team show that 37.5 per cent of 13 to 19-year-olds do not think possession of the drug is a crime. The survey, carried out earlier this year, also revealed that just 4.9 per cent knew about Frank, the drug awareness website, despite a national advertising campaign. Lincolnshire DAAT manager Rankin Barr said: "We have been aware of a great deal of confusion in the past year about the Government's reclassification of cannabis from a class B to a class C drug - and sadly this has been confirmed by our survey. "People of all ages must understand the possession of cannabis for personal use is still an offence." The DAAT has now launched a new campaign with the NHS which will reach youngsters through public transport adverts.
