UK: Cannabis plants man is spared jail term

Liverpool Echo

Wednesday 11 Aug 2004

---

A MAN who grew 40 cannabis plants at his home has been spared a jail sentence.

Phillip Hunter pleaded guilty at Liverpool crown court to cultivating and
possessing the classB drug.

Anthony Limont, prosecuting, told the court police went to Hunter's home in
Darwick Drive, Huyton, on November 27 last year.

He said they discovered 40 cannabis plants growing in a brick shed in the
back garden.

The court heard lighting and watering equipment had been set up to
cultivate the plants.

Sentencing Hunter to a 40-hour community punishment order, judge, Recorder
Roger Hedgeland, said: "This is not a trivial matter."
