UK: Festival in drug amnesty
Shropshire Star
Wednesday 18 Aug 2004 A drugs amnesty will be staged at this weekend's V2004 festival at Weston Park, police announced today. Special bins will be sited at the gates of the huge event for revellers to leave any drugs on their way in to the concert. But officers warned that anyone found in possession of drugs once through the gates would be arrested. Drugs searches will be carried out at the entrance and around the site during the event. Superintendent Kevin O'Leary said: "Police would like to remind people that even though cannabis has been re-classified as a Class C drug, it is still illegal to possess." "We are determined to stamp out drugs misuse," he added. Festival spokeswoman Carol Evans said it was a condition of entry that festival goers allowed themselves to be searched.
