UK: Cannabis case point of law

Wednesday 16 Feb 2005 THE Court of Appeal will today consider a point of law raised in the trial of North Wales cannabis campaigner Jeffrey Ditchfield. The attorney general has asked the court's opinion on the question of whether necessity could be used as a defence. Mr Ditchfield, 49, from Rhyl, was found not guilty after a four-day trial at Chester Crown Court a year ago, during which he claimed he would supply the drug only for medicinal purposes. The court cannot overturn the acquittal.
