LETTER TO TONY BLAIR, UK PRIME MINISTER, FROM THE LEGALISE CANNABIS ALLIANCE, 2007

Dear Mr Blair,

A recent UNICEF report that studied 21 industrialised countries found Britain to be the worst of these countries for children to grow up.

I'm sure you are aware that the country that came top of this league table was the Netherlands. A country that has accepted and tolerated cannabis use for over thirty years.

I put it to you that this proves beyond any shadow of a doubt that cannabis use by consenting adults has no detrimental effect on society.

I also put it to you that cannabis is much easier for children to get on the black market than in a regulated system like the Dutch model where the over 18 law is stricly adhered to and there is no street trade for cannabis.

You have stated that your vision for the future must include all of society but you push aside and ignore those of us who choose to use cannabis. This policy continues to alienate and wrongly criminalise thousands of people despite the fact that they have caused no harm to society.

The UNICEF report has presented the unmitigated evidence that accepting and tolerating cannabis would cause no problems for society. I believe it is now time to accept the facts and adopt a sensible policy regarding cannabis.

Yours sincerely,

Chris Baldwin
